Parallel Consumption

Business challenge: One of the intermediate process in cable manufacturing named "Stranding" involves bunching the same material input as parallel input. This is like making a rope where n number of smaller thread is bunched. The number of smaller threads increase wiht the denisity and the size of the final rope.

Solution: A regular solution mapping might suggest use multiple BOM lines with the same item but a little insight will easily discard it as a possible solution. As the number of parallel threads can go up to 60 and 128 in some cases. So a proportionate consumption system was devised where the user can allocate n batches for n lines and the system would propertionately consume from them at the same instance. The number of lines "n" was possible to be modified even at run time before reporting the order complete.

Leverage:A completely out of the box solution keeping in mind the speed of entry was designed. The user has to move across n lines to reserve each line. So a keyboard friendly line switch followed by a double click to reserve made it possible to bring down the time spent. This solution is currently being expanded to come up with the one of the most innovative consumption system, referred internally as "work center based consumption".
